You see, the thing about animation is that it’s all visual. You can only see it – there’s nothing to hear but silence. Animated characters can’t speak for themselves; even their footsteps are soundless.

Adding a soundtrack to an animation is a big part of bringing it to life. For The Lost Book, all sorts of people were part of the team that made sure you could hear Aileen’s adventures: voice actors; the Scottish Chamber Orchestra; composers; a sound designer; players from the Orchestra; and a recording team at the University of Edinburgh’s MSc Sound Design.
