Microstory Competition Rules

Write a Microstory | The Journal So Far | The Expedition Team | Press Cuttings | Rules

1. The competition is open to everyone around the world; we recommend that competition entrants should be aged 12 and over.

2. Entries should be a complete diary entry for one day, following on from the story so far.

3. Entries should be exactly 100 words long. Your 100 words should include the character’s name, but not the date.

4. Entries should be entered via the comment forms on any of the microstory pages by 4pm GMT Friday each week (last entry Friday 17th July 2009).

5. Privacy is important to us. If you give us your email address we will not sell, rent, or give it to anyone.

6. There’s no prize other than the considerable glory of being published on The Lost Book website. The Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust also plans to publish the complete final story as a Lost Book pamphlet, featuring artwork and stills from the animation.

7. The judges’ decision is final and we will not enter into any correspondence.

8. By entering, you grant to us a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use your microstory in any media and, specifically, to make the winning entries available via www.thelostbook.net and www.cityofliterature.com. The winning entries may also be collected and reproduced in other media, including print, in the future. Winners’ first names/nicknames will be published alongside their microstories.
