52. I’m officially the favourite member of The Lost Book team! *wags tail*
51. I’ve got a new book – The Hound of the Baskervilles. That’s quite a dog!
50. Kyle and Aileen are planning to share a jug of Pimms (Kyle thinks it’s romantic, but what would he know?)
49. Professor Remi’s found a new expedition to join – she’s heading for the central Rift Valley (pretending to be her own daughter!)
48. Otto’s got a new job – his undercover identity in K.B.E. was blown, so he’s working in the State Library of Victoria (I’m told they have a lot of rare books that need protecting)
47. Kyle’s asked Aileen out! I was tempted to bite him, but refrained. We’re all going to the Sheep Heid Inn together (I couldn’t let them go alone, could I?)
46. Beryl Pott’s plan is to get rich by selling rejuvenation to the international elite only – and create a new upper class. We’ll stop her!
45. You’ll be hearing from me and Aileen next – we’ll be telling you all about how our adventures end in the sixth episode of The Lost Book.
44. Kyle isn’t a police contact for Invisible Inc. (no surprise there – who’d want dozy Kyle as their contact?!)
43. I’ve been wondering why Invisible Inc. got Aileen involved – it turns out they need a press witness
42. Otto’s hidden the book! He only gave a copy to Beryl Potts (and he’s made a few changes. I wonder what they are?)
41. Otto Dafé was the person who stole the missing book from the National Library of Scotland. I knew it!
40. Turns out that secret society Invisible Inc. has a uniform. (I quite fancy one of those masks myself…)
39. Aileen’s met that Professor Remi. She looks about thirty but says she’s seventy-eight. I think she’s had a bit of work done…
38. Otto and Lyn are now working together to rescue my Aileen. Hooray!
37. Who’d have thought? The unpleasant Otto Dafé is actually an undercover agent for secret society of bibliophiles Invisible Inc. – and Lyn’s brother!! (They don’t smell at all alike.)
36. Beryl Potts has also captured Professor Catherine Remi. She’ll be useful for Aileen to interview – she’s the noted Belgian scientist who was on Sally Challenger’s expedition.
35. Oh no! Aileen’s cover’s blown – Beryl Potts knows she’s investigating the stolen book and has captured her.
34. Beryl Potts tried to shoot Otto Dafé! (Shame she missed, I’ve got Mr Dafé on my own personal little list…)
33. I’ve found a taxi company we can use in Christchurch: All Black Cabs. (Hmm, it’s fun to chase cars and it’s fun to chase balls. Can I combine the two here?)
32. Grazp Pharmaceuticals have a new slogan: “Grazp a younger you!”. (Is it just me, or is that a bit creepy?)
31. I’ve sniffed out the meaning of the dinosaur footprint logo! It belongs to Grazp Pharmaceuticals. (I knew it was suspicious all along.)
30. Beryl Potts! She’s a bad ‘un.
29. There’s going to be a gunshot (I’ll hide my ears; I hate loud noises), and I’m worried that Aileen will get captured while she’s in the Grazp Pharmaceuticals building. I hope not. I want to keep her safe.
28. Grazp Pharmaceuticals hired K.B.E. to steal the book. (And we’d never have found out if it wasn’t for me!)
27. Hurrah! My efforts to unencrypt the Challenger journal are coming together. I’ve found something really important that will help us work out who have stolen it!
26. Hmm, Aileen’s delegated the eavesdropping to Kyle. Suppose he’s got to be good at something. (No suprises that it’s something sneaky!)
25. Aileen’s going to do some sneaky eavesdropping to find out where Otto Dafé is going (although her hearing isn’t as good as mine!)
24. The number 4, found in unexpected places, gives a chemical clue: it links to beryllium (the fourth element of the periodic table) and potassium (the first element on the fourth line). The symbols for these elements are Be and K so also refer to K.B.E.!
23. Aileen’s going to focus on finding the Challenger journal, rather than getting distracted by investigating K.B.E.’s other activities (I do find interesting scents distracting…)
22. Kyle’s T’shirt says “Dexys Midnight Runners” (grrr, he’s trying to impress Aileen again)
21. Otto Dafé is currently reading 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die (sounds interesting. I wonder if I could borrow it…?)
20. The number 4 is significant (four legs good?)
19. The bad guy is called Otto Dafé (I smell burning)
18. Aileen will decide where to go next by following the bad guy (following? Chasing, more like! I love to chase things. Run, Aileen, run!)
17. I’ve discovered a bad guy in Copper Beeches Café (it’s the same scent as on the destroyed book in Doc Rebus’s bookshop)
16. Aileen will go to Christchurch, New Zealand, after Iowa City
15. Lyn will go with Aileen when she leaves Iowa City (hmph again)
14. Sally Challenger has never visited Copper Beeches Café (I can’t smell any trace of her)
13. Lyn the bookseller is on Aileen’s side (hmph, new best friend?)
12. Aileen will visit Copper Beeches Café (there’s a surprise! She can’t do anything without coffee and cupcakes)
11. Keep Books Extinct are only after the Challenger journal – we think they have been hired to “assassinate” the book.
10. “K.B.E.” stands for Keep Books Extinct
9. The bookseller is called Lyn (but she’s secretly a Lynx)
8. There’s a secret society of bibliophiles called Invisible Inc. based in Iowa City (they use Doc Rebus’s book shop as cover, but we sniffed them out)
7. Aileen’s not the book thief (of course she isn’t)
6. The bus driver is an innocent bystander
5. I’m a loyal friend, not a criminal spydog (I can’t believe someone suspected me!)
4. Kyle will be suspended for helping Aileen (ha!)
3. Aileen has a secret soft spot for Kyle (grrr)
2. I’m a boy dog
