Hello and welcome to The Lost Book! (Or hello again if you’ve been here before – thanks for popping back!) We’ve just launched episode 5 – watch it now!
You can catch up with the story so far by watching all the episodes (it’ll take about seven minutes) or, for a quick catch-up, skim our introduction to the cast and story.

As you probably know, the story of The Lost Book is written entirely by you, the audience. There’s only one episode left so you need to decide how things end. First up, what’s our criminal’s motive? We know that:
• Beryl Potts hired book assassins K.B.E. to steal Sally Challenger’s expedition journal.
• The journal probably contains the secret of Professor Remi’s rejuvenation – and perhaps the location of the mysterious Ikhata.
But – why does Beryl Potts want the secret of eternal life? What’s her plan? Is it all about profit? (As Tom says, Grazp can charge higher prices if they have a monopoly.) Or, is Beryl ill and looking for a cure? (Anna’s suggestion.) Or, does she have some other goal?
We need you to tell us. Leave a comment now with your thoughts – what is Beryl’s eeeeevil plan?!

An absolutely cracking episode – am amazed that so much can be crammed in so little time!
Very nice episode!
As for the next episode… Beryl Potts does not sound like a young fresh girl with a whole life ahead of her. I would not be surprised if her main motivation is to use it herself.
I liked the way the lights in the building went on floor by floor as the helicopter flew away – very dramatic. This episode had great use of light and dark, and flying glass!
I agree with Anna and Tom, Beryl Potts sounds like she wants to either get healthy or get youthful. I imagine she is about the same age as the Professor and wants to look as youthful as her. A rich old lonely woman trying to regain her youth (she has to be rich to be able to afford to manipulate KBE).
Next episode could also feature Watson head butting Kyle, as TLB has already pointed out Watson has no mouth so can’t bite him.
I loved the bit when Dafé went ‘sssssh’ and then LL exploded through the window.
Yes, agree with Anna, Tom & Kiwi re BP’s motive. I think she’s ageing rather than ill (will we end up feeling sorry for her??) and jealous of the Prof. She has power and money – I just wonder, does she want a guy (any or specific) as well? No strong feelings about it, I just wonder – what was the real reason for BP shooting OD?
It’s not very evil, is it? She’s old and wants to be younger? Also, seems a little stereotyped – all that “rich lonely old woman who wants a man” stuff. She’s a powerful woman at the head of a multinational corporation. I don’t think she’s doing all this to get rid of her wrinkles. I think she’s after wolrd domination.
How about she has grown an army of Beryl Potts clones? She has found out that the rejuvenating water will bring them to life – and make them all different ages so they don’t look identical. She wants to put one in every major boardroom in the world so that she can run everything.
That might sound more evil… but the story in which the bad guy seems reasonable in his actions seems like the greater horror to me. After all… doesnt everything depends on the point of view? You act because you think its the right thing to do, at least for you. Even when others might not agree with you on it. I find the stories in which the bad guy does evil for evil to be unbelievable and stretching my belief in the story. Yet those stories in which the bad guy does something you might have done yourself in similar circumstances to be very strong stories.
So.. what would you do if you were a very powerful, influential and rich (wo)man who is aging and reaching the end of his/her life? A life in which you could have everything you wanted.. except that what you long for the most? Maybe she wants a second chance at life? A new chance at love?
Somehow I imagine Beryl Potts to be an aging woman in a wheelchair due to her legs no longer able to support her well without pain. People can do strange things if they believe they are doing the right thing…
Tom, I can see your point and it’s well argued. I can imagine a great story centring on a difficult decision. Supposing the journal had accidentally got into Beryl’s hands, and the rejuvenation could only be used once, and she was reaching the end of her life – then, yes, there’d be lots of tension because all of us would be tempted.
But, that isn’t the case here. Beryl’s hired “book assassins” to take the book from half-way around the world, and destroy all copies. The rejuvenation can be used more than once (otherwise there’s no point bothering because Prof. Remi’s already used it) so if the only goal was to rejuvenate herself there’d be no need to keep it secret.
Why does she want to keep the secret to herself? Surely it can only be because she has some plan other than making herself younger? Either she wants to make a fortune from selling it or she has a bigger plan that rejuvenation is a part of. I like Percival’s clone idea!
Beryl Potts wants to keep the rejuvination a secret and only wants to sell it to a select group of elite around the world, creating a new class of high society, superior in looks and wealth, all of which will profit her of course. She somehow feels she will be honored by these people for handing them such a unique and rare gift, enabling her to fit into the world she so envied.
Oh, I rather like this. Would tie in perhaps with the original use of the Ikhata in the temple before found by Prof G Challenger?
Hey, C Remi has already inadvertently infiltrated this super-elite!!
Maybe the professor is meant to be the model who shows the product works (celebrity endorsement, like Beckham and his underwear shots), but there was a disagreement as Beryl’s plan got more and more evil.
So the original Prof was the one locked up, and her clones are being developed without her permission by Beryl.
and the clones are being used for more than modelling, stealing corporate secrets, inflitrating criminal and government organisations…anything really. If one clone dies you just slot another one into the same place and noone is any the wiser.
Aaaargh!
Hmmm yes I like this more and more. But Grazp doesn’t want to sell it to the general public. What’s the point of being uniquely beautiful and young if it isn’t just that, unique?
On that note, not entirely unique, but only availible in inner circles. Prof. Remi is being kept for experimentation reasons which are painful and degrading by the “evil” Beryl Potts. mwhahahahahaha!
Brilliant ideas, team! We’ve just posted a poll to select the best outline – we’ll go into more detail once the best evil plan has been chosen!
