Watson here! Finally, a trail to follow for the Ikhata. The latest instalment of Sally Challenger’s journal (unencrypted by me, with a little help from Andrew J. Wilson) says Professor Challenger donated the Ikhata to the Société Belge, which is where Professor Remi came across it.
I’ve checked the facts, and Challenger was a “Foreign Member” of the Société Belge (among many other organisations – “about two inches of small type”, as old McArdle put it).
So, I did a bit of sniffing around… and uncovered the Société Belge’s catalogue. Item# 2666 can only be the Ikhata – part of the Challenger bequest, found in 1897 in the Gran Sabana, currently in the possession of Professor Remi. There’s even a photo!
Take a look at the full catalogue entry:

Isn’t Aileen going to be pleased with me when she escapes? I definitely deserve doggy choc-drops, don’t you think? And tummy-tickles.

Great tie-ins here! heavy for its size, weapon, key, dino shape, contains B and P! really a very sinister artefact! I wonder what C. Remi knew or suspected of its properties when she wanted to borrow it….?
I like the writings in the side – especially the ornamental shoe horn comment.
Ahh – until I saw the picture I was thinking the Ikhata was more of a keystone than a key.
So, does it phyiscally unlock something or does it merely unlock the secrets of the water?
Both….?
Is the secret of the water the main effect? Or just a (weird) side-effect of what it really is meant to do?
Depending on that answer, it might be even more important then it currently is. And more parties might be interested in having control over it.
But then again… that could be nice for a followup story or something?
Honestly… I love to see this story finished, but at the same time I dont like it… Its too much fun being in this process… Am really hoping for a new story-project after this.
@Tom – thanks! We hope there will be a new story project too…
